Purchasing a Plot
Grave plots are currently available for sale in Section E. Each
plot is 9’ by 12’ and can accommodate two standard graves. The price of each plot (2 graves) is $500.00. Contact number for inquiries or to purchase is 256.738.4780 (Jimmy Keller).
Plot Ownership
Plots in cemeteries are not governed by laws that apply to real
property or corporations due to their inherently different nature. The purchaser of a plot in a cemetery is generally regarded as having only a limited property right. He or she acquires a privilege,
easement, or license to make burials in the purchased plot, exclusive of all other people. The owner’s rights are subject to the police power of the state as well as the rules of the cemetery board
and any restrictions made in the contract of the sale.
A gravestone placed on a plot is the personal property of the one
that purchases it and its ownership is passed to the person’s heirs.
SETTING
MONUMENTS, ETC.
It is very
important that anytime patrons contract with companies or individuals to set monuments or provide other services within the cemetery that it be coordinated with the Cemetery Board. This will help
ensure proper placement of monuments and compliance with guidelines established for Free Home Cemetery. This can also help to limit ones liability when having monuments placed on the graves or other
services done to individual plots. It is virtually impossible to provide services in a cemetery without some encroachment on other graves due to the size and proximity of the plots. The Cemetery
Board works to keep encroachments to a minimum and maintain records of those companies or individuals providing services in the cemetery for accountability purposes. Good communication is very
important to help protect everyone’s property and in preventing hardships or misunderstandings.
The Board does not make any monument repairs. This is the
responsibility of the individual family. If you find your monument in disrepair, contact a monument company or an individual to repair it.
BURIALS IN THE COMMUNITY AREA
ALL BURIALS IN THE COMMUNITY AREA OF THE CEMETERY MUST BE APPROVED BY THE BOARD.

MAINTENANCE/MOWING ISSUES
The Board asks that families please refrain from placing flowers
on the ground during the mowing season with the exception of funerals and decoration. please remove old flowers from graves as they become out of season, discolored and
brittle.
We are still having problems with glass, metal and small trinkets
being placed on the graves which create a dangerous situation for the mowing crew and patrons visiting the cemetery.
We ask that anyone doing maintenance in the cemetery to please
dispose of debris, dirt or anything removed from graves in the proper place. We have a fill area behind the dumpster for excess dirt from graves and a dumpster for old flowers and debris. All
maintenance in the cemetery, with the exception of mowing is done by volunteers. Please respect other patrons of the cemetery by not relocating refuse from your loved ones grave to
others.
The dumpster located in Free Home
Cemetery is not for public household and construction garbage. Anyone witnessing illegal dumping in the cemetery dumpster please contact SUSAN Owens, Solid Waste Enforcement Officer at
256-264-5219.
Contact a Board member with any questions, concerns or needs regarding
the cemetery.
